The Basics of Decorating with 3D Objects

Decorating your own 3D webspace with 3D objects and images can be really fun.

Firstly, once you have installed ExitReality, go to the 2D webpage that you wish to turn into 3D and press the ExitReality button in your browser.

This will take you to your 3D webspace.  You will need to be able to edit the 2D webpage to change the look of the 3D webspace.

Then, run a search for an object and find an object that you would like to add to your webspace.

Next, use the Drag Me button to drag and drop the object into your webspace and see it appear.

Editing

ExitReality gives you a range of tools to move and manipulate 3D objects, so that you can set up your 3D webspace exactly as you like.

You can drop images on to elements in the scene as well, either from hyperlinks to the image file or from the icon in the address bar.

Prototypes

Some objects are special kinds objects called Prototypes.  These often require you to input data before they can be added to the scene.  Read more about them here.

Saving

Once things are in place you can save your decorations so that everyone can see them when they visit your webspace.  Click on the Save button (with the disk icon).

When you save your decorations for the first time you need to place a Launch in 3D button on your page (using special code that we give you in the window that pops up).  This code tells ExitReality that you have the right to add stuff to the page.  It also tells ExitReality how to find your decorations.

Add the code to your webpage where you want the button to appear.

I have a world in which I dropped in entirely too many things. How do I reset and start with the base apartment world in my space?

You can remove the button from your 2D webpage. The button tells ExitReality where to find the list of objects for your URL in our database. Without this button on your page no decorations will be displayed. You can then decorate the clean webspace and save as per normal. Then, it will tell you that you need to add the code to your webpage. Copy this new code. It has your new decorations set ID in it. Now ExitReality will look at your new list of decorations whenever you (or anyone else) visits the page in 3D.

@John Doe's Mom: Yes, you do need your own website to save decorations there, just like if you want to display an image or some text so that others can view it. But it can just be a social network page or something like Google Page Creator.

@Stefan: The only change to the site is the inclusion of the "Launch in 3D" button. The ExitReality browser is required to see any 3D objects, background textures etc.
